Join Ron DiGiaimo and Teri Bedard for a pre-conference seminar titled A Clinical Approach To Radiation Oncology Documentation and Billing Processes. This 4-hour seminar will provide attendees a detailed overview of required documentation to support billing for services rendered within a Radiation Oncology department. Revenue Cycle Inc.’s clinical approach to education will detail each step of the process of care through an understanding of the Radiation Oncology Team members’ day-to-day work processes. The balance between billing and patient care is incorporated into the education to assist attendees with real scenarios in the typical busy department. This session will address many of the frequently asked questions in radiation oncology, including but not limited to, IMRT, IGRT, HDR, SBRT and the associated recurring CPT® codes for treatment devices and plans.

This program is designed to review with dosimetrist the latest coding, billing, documentation and compliance associated with the clinical procedures performed by their discipline. Information will be presented to the attendees that will include but will not be limited to; New CPT Codes for 2012, updated documentation and signature requirements, ICD-10 implementation, medical necessity requirements and compliance regulations for 2012.

This program is designed to provide a glimpse into the emerging new roles for therapists in the realm of documentation, reimbursement and compliance. The course will provide a detail of the importance of these new job roles, as well as a review of the current Medicare guidelines to assist in compliant documentation and code capture for procedures performed within the Radiation Oncology Department. It will also provide the therapist(s) with references and resources to assist in their new role and day-to-day responsibilities.

With the recent Medicare transmittal regarding cloning of medical record documentation, questions have been raised as to appropriate utilization of documentation templates and electronic documentation. This presentation will address Medicare concerns regarding these documentation practices, as well as the importance of customized, patient specific and accurate medical record documentation. Recommendations for documentation processes will be presented, along with documentation examples to provide attendees with the opportunity to identify possible improvements within their own facilities.

Whether this documentation is on paper or within the EMR, there are implications as to what we indicate occurred. Do we all comprehend the significance of this documentation? The audience will be asked to consider various aspects of documentation and the moral and legal obligations that are contained.
