HHS NEWS: Obama Administration & Expanded Efforts to Fight Fraud
The government’s focus on Medicare fraud continues to show positive outcomes. The current Administration announced this week that over $5.6 billion in fraudulent payments had been recovered in 2011. This was a 167% increase in recoveries from 2008. While only a portion of this would be specific to Radiation Oncology, with these numbers, I would assume the initiative to continue and facilities and providers should be motivated to ensure compliance.
Yes, we can look forward to increased reviews in the future…I know the documentation at times can be a hassle, but it is always best to do it up front than to have to deal with potential risk in the future.
