MedPac June Report Released

On Friday, June 14th, the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) presented its annual report to congress. The report identified a host of issues with Medicare to include overall spending growth and gaps in outpatient spending.  Some savings suggestions by MedPAC were to implement “site-neutral” polices that would equalize payment rates for E&M visits in a hospital outpatient setting with those for freestanding physician offices.  Also, the report made recommendations on bundling payments for 4 post-acute care settings.  The June report also mentions 12 groups of services commonly performed in an ASC that would generate annual savings if outpatient department payment rates were lowered to the level of the ASC rates.
